Omid Mahdavi
Omid Mahdavi (July 26, 1982 – October 10, 2022)
Omid Mahdavi, born on July 26, 1982, in Tehran, was among the victims of Iran’s 2022 nationwide protests. He was married and the father of one child. Despite having a family and a life he deeply cared for, he chose to stand alongside the people protesting for freedom and justice — believing that liberty was a right long denied to Iranians and one that had to be reclaimed.
During the early weeks of the protests in October 2022, Omid took part in demonstrations around the Haft-Hoz and Narmak areas of Tehran. In the course of the government crackdown, he was violently beaten by security forces. Repeated baton strikes to his head left him critically injured and unconscious.
Omid Mahdavi was transferred to Shohada-ye Tajrish Hospital, where he remained in a coma for ten days. Throughout those days, his family waited in hope for his recovery. However, on October 10, 2022, he succumbed to his injuries.
Today, Omid rests in Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran. For many, his name remains a symbol of a generation that sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of freedom and a better future for Iran.
