Ehsan Khanmohammadi

Ehsan Khanmohammadi (October 16, 1992 – October 1, 2022)

Ehsan Khanmohammadi was born on October 16, 1992in Tehran, Iran. He lived in the Hashemabad neighborhood of Tehran and was 29 years old at the time of his death.
Following the death of Mahsa Amini and the outbreak of nationwide protests across Iran in 2022, Ehsan joined the demonstrations to express his demands for justice and freedom. On October 1, 2022, he was present on Jomhouri Street in central Tehran during the protests.
According to reports and testimonies, Ehsan was attacked by security forces during the demonstrations. He was first severely beaten with batons and then shot directly in the head and neck with live ammunition. The injuries he sustained proved fatal, and he lost his life that day.
Three days later, on October 4, 2022, Ehsan Khanmohammadi was laid to rest at Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery in Tehran, in Section 326, Row 53, Grave 33.
Ehsan Khanmohammadi is among the protesters who lost their lives during Iran’s nationwide protests of 2022. His death has been cited in human rights reports documenting allegations of excessive force and violence against demonstrators during that period.
Human rights organizations and independent monitors have reported numerous cases in which protesters were subjected to severe beatings, often involving baton strikes to the head, chest, and other vital areas. These reports describe a pattern of violence that, in some instances, resulted in serious injuries or death. Investigators have documented and verified multiple cases in which protesters allegedly died after being beaten by security personnel.
One of the most widely known recorded incidents became known as the “Naziabad Incident,” a video that showed a civilian being violently assaulted by a large group of security forces before shots were fired. The footage received significant attention both inside Iran and internationally and became one of the few publicly available visual records of such violence.
Ehsan Khanmohammadi’s story remains part of the broader history of the 2022 protests in Iran. A young man from Tehran, he left home to join a public demonstration and never returned. His name continues to be remembered among those who lost their lives during the movement.
