Diana Mahmoudi

Diana Mahmoudi (November 7, 2014 – November 7, 2022)

Diana Mahmoudi, born in 2014, was a child from Piranshahr in West Azerbaijan Province, Iran, where she lived with her father, mother, and her sister Nadia.
According to various accounts, on 7 November 2022, during the period of nationwide protests in Iran, she was returning home from school with her father when she was struck by a bullet. Some reports state that the bullet was a live round that hit her in the head. Other accounts claim that she was taken to a hospital, underwent surgery, but ultimately did not survive.
Following this incident, reports emerged alleging that security forces in Piranshahr pressured the family to state that her death was caused by illnesses such as a brain tumor or cancer, and to deny any connection to the protests. According to these accounts, the family initially resisted but later felt compelled to accept this version under pressure.
Some narratives also claim that her mother was briefly detained or pressured and later released. It is further reported in some accounts that Diana’s body was not directly handed over to the family and that they were instead told the location of her burial.
Alongside these reports, emotionally charged messages and personal narratives circulated describing Diana as a young child who was killed while returning from school, and her memory has been kept alive as one of the victims of violence during that period.
These accounts remain disputed and are described differently across various sources, reflecting ongoing disagreement and sensitivity surrounding the events.
