Hediyeh Naimani
Hediyeh Naimani (October 23, 1997 – October 23, 2022)
Sometimes history remembers people not for the number of years they lived, but for the moment they chose courage over fear.
Hediyeh Naimani, a young woman from the city of Nowshahr, was one of those names.
She was only twenty-five years old—a time when dreams are just beginning to take shape and the future still feels full of endless possibilities. Like countless young women and men of her generation, she dreamed of an Iran where freedom, justice, and human dignity would no longer be distant ideals, but everyday realities.
In September 2022, the death of Mahsa Amini sparked a wave of grief and outrage across Iran. Streets that had once been ordinary became places where people gathered, carrying both hope and uncertainty, determined to make their voices heard.
Nowshahr was one of those cities.
Hediyeh stood among the protesters, believing in the possibility of a better tomorrow. She carried no weapon. She brought only her hopes, her convictions, and her dream of a freer future.
Then came October 23, 2022 —the eighth day of nationwide protests.
Across Iran, demonstrations continued in Tehran, Mashhad, Rasht, Karaj, Ardabil, and many other cities. In Nowshahr, Hediyeh was among those who had taken to the streets.
That day, her life took a tragic turn.
She was wounded during the protests. Her injuries were so severe that, despite medical efforts, she passed away in the hospital.
Yet some endings become the beginning of another story.
Hediyeh was never just another name in the headlines. She was a young woman with unfinished dreams, a smile that would never return, and a future she would never have the chance to live.
For many, her death came to symbolize the profound cost that people sometimes pay while pursuing the future they hope to see.
If Hediyeh could speak to us today, perhaps she would say:
"My name is Hediyeh Naimani.
I was a young woman from Nowshahr.
One day, I left home carrying a dream of a different tomorrow. I believed there was still so much life ahead of me—so much laughter to share, so much love to give, so many dreams still waiting to come true.
But my journey ended far too soon.
What remains of me is not merely a name written in history, but a dream I believed was worth living for.
If one day you remember my name, don't remember only the way my life ended.
Remember the dreams that never had the chance to bloom.
Remember a generation that longed for a brighter future.
Remember that behind every name was a life, a family, a story left unfinished.
My body may be gone, but as long as my story is remembered, as long as hope continues to live in people's hearts, a part of me lives on.
Because some voices are never truly silenced.
They continue to echo long after they are gone.
And perhaps that is what it truly means to endure."
