Kumar Daraftadeh

Kumar Daraftadeh (August 16, 2006 – October 30, 2022)

Kumar Daraftadeh (کۆمار ده‌رئوفتاده) was a 16-year-old Iranian Kurdish teenager who was killed by security forces during the 2022 Iranian protests.

Death

Kumar Daraftadeh was severely wounded by a direct gunshot from a distance of three meters by security forces in Piranshahr during the 2022 protests. The shooting occurred near the Kohnehkhaneh bypass close to the "Mohammad Oraz" square, using a high-caliber weapon.

Although still alive when detained, he was taken to the Piranshahr intelligence office. Approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes later, during transfer to the hospital, he was declared clinically dead.

Prevention of Immediate Medical Aid

BBC Persian verification reports indicated that after being shot, Kumar was alive but detained by security forces. When ambulance transfer was requested, security personnel delayed it. Emergency medical personnel attempted resuscitation but were prevented by authorities. The report stated:

"Security forces emphasized that, by order, the patient had to be transported to the hospital without delay… the patient was delivered to the emergency department without intravenous access, without vital signs, and without airway establishment (intubation or laryngeal mask, etc.)."

Once the opportunity for timely resuscitation was lost due to obstruction, Kumar was transferred to the hospital, where a 34-minute cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempt failed. His death was officially recorded at 22:15.

Funeral

A video of his funeral in the village of Zivkeh on October 31, 2022, shows his father speaking in Kurdish:

"I am proud that he became a martyr for freedom and this land… Since last night, my heart has been in pieces; but he sacrificed himself for this land and freedom. By God, they will kill all of us; my child was innocent; the Islamic government will show no mercy."
