Sadaf Movahedi
Sadaf Movahedi (January 27, 2004 – October 2022)
Sadaf Movahedii was a 19-year-old Iranian student who, during the 2022 Iranian uprising, suffered a fatal brain injury after being struck on the head with a baton in Tehran.
Personal Life
Sadaf Movahedii was born on January 27, 2004, in Tehran and was the only child of a family living in West Tehran. Although some sources reported her age as 17, she was in fact 19. Sadaf loved studying graphic design, but due to certain circumstances, she had to change her field of study to humanities and restart her studies from 10th grade. She was in her final year and was supposed to receive her high school diploma.
Death
During the 2022 Iranian uprising, at the age of 19, Sadaf Movahedii was killed by severe blows from batons wielded by security forces who had ambushed her outside her high school. Because of her red hair, she was identified a few days later after videos of protests by students at 22 Bahman High School in the Jannatabad district were released. On Monday, October 17, after school had ended, Sadaf was attacked by security agents in an alley while returning home, who struck her head repeatedly.
Under pressure and threats from security forces, Sadaf’s family was forced to report the cause of her death as a “heart attack.”
Funeral
The body of Sadaf Movahedii, the 19-year-old student of 22 Bahman High School, was buried on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, in Behesht Zahra Cemetery.
