Marzieh Doshmanziari (February 15, 2001 – October 17, 2022)

Marzieh Doshmanziari was born on February 15, 2001 in the city of Deylam, Bushehr Province, Iran. She was a 22-year-old Business Management student at the Sadra Campus of Islamic Azad University in Shiraz. According to those who knew her, she was a dedicated student with aspirations of pursuing a career in business.
Following the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in September 2022 and the outbreak of nationwide protests across Iran, Marzieh reportedly took part in student activism and demonstrations in Shiraz. According to some accounts, she had recently discussed plans to distribute or post a statement at her university and remained engaged in the protest movement.
On October 17, 2022, news of her death emerged. The circumstances surrounding her death remain disputed. Activists, student sources, and some human rights accounts alleged that Marzieh was fatally injured after being struck multiple times in the head with batons by security forces during the suppression of protests in Shiraz. These sources further claimed that authorities pressured her family and fellow students not to speak publicly about the incident and to attribute her death to a traffic accident.
Iranian state-affiliated media and Marzieh’s father, however, stated that she died as a result of a road accident in Shiraz. In public statements, her family rejected allegations that she had been killed during the protests and maintained that her death was caused by a traffic collision.
Marzieh Doshmanziari was buried in the early morning hours of October 19, 2022, reportedly around 5:00 a.m. Some sources described the burial as having taken place with limited public awareness and under unusual circumstances, while official accounts did not characterize the funeral in the same way.
Because of these conflicting accounts, the exact circumstances of Marzieh Doshmanziari’s death remain contested. Her case continues to be cited in discussions surrounding the events and casualties associated with Iran’s 2022 protest movement.
